The clause table
Twelve conditions, in the order they touch your money. The right-hand column works each one on a $50 deposit against a 100% match capped at $50, which is the simplest shape a deposit bonus takes.
| # | Condition | Where it's written | On a $50 deposit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | State exclusions | Sportsbet 2.1: ACT, NSW, WA, SA excluded; VIC for account-opening. TAB 64: NSW, QLD, SA, VIC, WA may be ineligible | Residents of those states get no token at all |
| 2 | Recreational punters only | Sportsbet 8.2; TAB 60.1(d) and 63.2; PointsBet eligibility by "account activity history" | Eligibility can be withdrawn after the fact |
| 3 | Once per person, per offer | Sportsbet 2.5; TAB 62.4 | One $50 token, whatever you deposit later |
| 4 | Cap and percentage | Sportsbet 4.2 "subject to the maximum amount or percentage stated" | Token $50; a $200 deposit would also earn $50 |
| 5 | Deposit method | Sportsbet 4.5: not Cash Card or BPAY. TAB FAQ 14: online debit card only | A BPAY deposit earns nothing |
| 6 | Whole dollars, rounded down | TAB 61.5 | $50 stays $50; a 50% match on $55 is $27 |
| 7 | Promo code, no combining | TAB 62.3 and 62.7; Sportsbet 6.6 | Code entered at the deposit screen; no second offer on the same bet |
| 8 | Qualifying bet is a single | TAB 62.2(c) and (d): no multis, no each-way | A multi as the first bet doesn't qualify |
| 9 | Credited within a window | Sportsbet 4.4: 24 hours; TAB 62.6: 2 business days | At TAB, allow up to 2 business days for the token |
| 10 | Seven-day expiry | Sportsbet 6.2; TAB 67.1 | Token void on day eight |
| 11 | Profit only | Sportsbet 7.1; TAB FAQ 15; PointsBet formula | $50 at $2.00 credits $50 |
| 12 | Deposit turned over once | Sportsbet help; PointsBet "at any odds" | $50 bet before the $50 can be withdrawn |
Two further clauses hover over all twelve. Sportsbet's 8.3: it "reserves the right to cancel or change the Offer at any time", and 1.5: it may restrict the markets a bonus bet can be used on "at any time, including after a Bonus Bet has been credited".1 TAB's 62.8 says a promo "can be cancelled at any time at our discretion".3
Eligibility clauses (rows 1 to 3)
State exclusions come from state law, mostly NSW's s.33H, and the NSW page explains why the lists differ between bookmakers. The "recreational" clause is the one to read twice. TAB clause 63.2: "Promo Benefits are intended for use by Recreational Gamblers only. We reserve the right to … refuse to award a Promo Benefit to, or remove a Promo Benefit from, any Eligible Participant … if we have a reasonable belief that the Eligible Participant is not a Recreational Gambler."3 TAB gives 14 days to request a review by someone other than the original decision-maker (clause 63.3). Sportsbet's 8.2 says "professional gamblers or other gamblers considered by Sportsbet management to be abusing this Offer may have their right to participate revoked", and 8.4 adds "the decisions of Management are final".1
TAB's fair-play clause 63.1 lists what triggers a refusal: the same promo code entered on multiple accounts in one name, from one device or IP address, in one household, or sharing a card number, email or phone.3
Money clauses (rows 4 to 7)
The cap is worked through on the deposit match page; the short version is that the smallest deposit reaching the cap is the only one that earns the full token. Deposit method is where most missing tokens go: TAB's FAQ 14 makes online debit card the only qualifying method, and Sportsbet's clause 4.5 excludes Cash Card and BPAY.4 Credit cards have been banned at licensed bookmakers since 11 June 2024, so they're not an option either way.6
TAB's rounding clause 61.5 gives its own examples: 50% of a $75 stake is $37, and 25% of $103 winnings is $25.3 On round deposits it changes nothing; on odd ones it always rounds against you.
The twelve rows are the same shape at every licensed bookmaker; what differs is how plainly each one writes them. The comparison scores the three on exactly that.

Use clauses (rows 8 to 12)
TAB clause 62.2 sets the default shape of a qualifying bet: "unless specified otherwise, the Promo Bet must be a single bet, (multi and Super Multi bets are not valid Promo Bets)" and "cannot be an each way bet".3 Then the token itself follows the bonus bet rules: seven days, profit only, no cash out at TAB, excluded bet types listed in Sportsbet 9.1 and TAB FAQ 10, all covered on the bonus bet page.
Row 12 is the one people forget because it isn't in the promo terms at all. Sportsbet: "Sportsbet does not charge fees on deposits on the understanding that deposits will be turned over at least once, which means if you deposit $50 you'll need to bet $50 before you can withdraw the balance."2 PointsBet calls it "a compliance requirement for all bookmakers under Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations" and says it applies "at any odds".5

Deposit bonus terms weighed up
Where the terms help
- Sportsbet's clauses 3.3 and 4.3 print worked examples, so the cap arithmetic isn't guesswork.
- TAB numbers every clause and gives a 14-day review of a "not recreational" decision.
- Turnover is once, at any odds.
Where the terms cost
- Offers can be changed or cancelled at any time (Sportsbet 8.3, TAB 62.8).
- Market restrictions can be added after the token is credited (Sportsbet 1.5).
- Rounding is always down (TAB 61.5).
- Five states are named on at least one exclusion list.
My verdict
Run any deposit offer down the twelve rows before you deposit, in that order. Rows 1 and 5 decide whether you get a token at all; row 4 decides how much to deposit; rows 10 to 12 decide what you can take out and when. A $50 deposit with a $50 token is, at best, $50 of your own money bet once plus one profit-only shot. The comparison shows which bookmaker writes those twelve rows most plainly.
Questions punters ask
What are typical deposit bonus terms?
A cap on the token, a list of deposit methods that count, a state exclusion list, one benefit per promo, a single-bet rule for the qualifying bet, whole-dollar rounding, a seven-day expiry and a turnover rule on the deposit. All of them appear in the three bookmakers' terms on this page.
Is there a minimum deposit for a deposit bonus?
The general terms don't set one; the specific offer does. What the general terms set is the cap: Sportsbet's illustration caps a 300% match at $75, so a $25 deposit reaches it.
Do I need minimum odds to use a deposit bonus?
The general bonus bet terms of Sportsbet and TAB don't set minimum odds; PointsBet's turnover rule says the deposit can be bet through at any odds. Specific promos, especially stake-back tokens, do set minimum prices, such as TAB's $1.10 per leg and $1.50 combined on a multi saver.
Why didn't my BPAY deposit get the bonus?
Sportsbet's clause 4.5 says Cash Card and BPAY deposits don't trigger a deposit match, and TAB's FAQ 14 limits deposit-related offers to online debit-card deposits.
Can I have two deposit bonuses?
Not on the same promo: Sportsbet's clause 2.5 allows each offer once per person and TAB's clause 62.4 issues one benefit per promo. Promo codes can't be combined with other offers (TAB clause 62.7).
Are deposit bonuses legal in NSW?
Advertising them with an inducement to open an account or bet isn't, under s.33H of the Betting and Racing Act 1998, which is why Sportsbet's terms exclude NSW residents from offers altogether.
