Bet match and deposit match: one token, two triggers
Sportsbet's terms keep the two apart. Clause 3.1, bet match: a bonus bet "equal to or otherwise calculated by reference to the amount of your first bet, or another bet made by you during a specified period ('Qualifying Bet'), capped to a certain amount". Clause 4.1, deposit bonus: the same sentence with "the first deposit made into your Account" in place of the bet.1 TAB's version is a "Promo Deposit": you enter a promo code at the deposit screen and deposit "the required funds" within the offer window (clauses 61.1(b) and 62.3).3
What arrives in both cases is a bonus bet, and everything on the bonus bet page applies: separate balance, one use, profit only, seven days. The match changes how big the token is. It doesn't change what the token is.
How the cap sets the token
Sportsbet's clause 4.3 carries a hypothetical it labels "for illustrative purposes" and not an offer: a bonus bet "up to 300% of the Qualifying Deposit, capped to a maximum of $75".1 Worked through with its own numbers:
Worked example · 300% match capped at $75 (Sportsbet clause 4.3 illustration)
- Deposit $10
- token $30
- Deposit $25
- token $75 (cap reached)
- Deposit $50
- token $75
- Deposit $100
- token $75
- Token from a $50 deposit
- $75.00
From $25 upward the percentage is decoration: a $50 deposit and a $100 deposit earn the same $75. The bet match illustration in clause 3.3 behaves the same way with a $50 cap, where a $100 first bet earns $50 and a $50 first bet also earns $50.1 The deposit that makes sense is the smallest one that reaches the cap, and the terms tell you what that is: cap divided by the percentage.
TAB's rounding rule shaves a little more. Clause 61.5: "The value of the Promo Benefit will always be a whole dollar amount", rounded down, so 50% of a $75 stake is $37.3 On a $50 deposit at 50% that's $25 either way; on $55 it's $27, not $27.50.
Deposit methods that don't count
A deposit offer is triggered by the deposit, and the terms list methods that don't trigger it. Sportsbet clause 4.5: "Deposits made via Cash Card and BPAY will not trigger the Deposit Match offer."1 TAB's FAQ 14 is broader: "Only deposits made online using your debit card make you eligible for deposit-related bonus bet offers. If you make cash or BPAY deposits, you won't receive the offers."4
Neither document mentions PayID, which is the most common way to fund a betting account in Australia; the specific offer's terms have to say. Credit cards can't be used at all: licensed bookmakers have been banned from taking them since 11 June 2024, so a deposit match is funded by debit card, PayID or bank transfer, and only the ones the offer names count.
The cap and the deposit method are the two lines that decide a match; the comparison shows how the three bookmakers write them, and which one prints a worked example in its own terms.

What happens after the token lands
Two clocks start. The token has seven days (Sportsbet clause 6.2, TAB clause 67.1) and pays profit only when it wins: $75 at $2.00 credits $75.1 The deposit has to be turned over once before it can be withdrawn. Sportsbet's help centre: "if you deposit $50 you'll need to bet $50 before you can withdraw the balance".2 PointsBet says the same in its own words: "the cash deposit amount must be bet through at least once (at any odds) before you can withdraw deposited funds".5
Worked example · $50 deposit, $50 matched token, both bet at $2.00 and both win
- Cash bet $50 at $2.00 returns
- $100.00
- Bonus bet $50 at $2.00 credits
- $50.00
- Balance
- $150.00
- Deposit turned over?
- Yes ($50 bet)
- Withdrawable
- $150.00
If both lose, the balance is $0 and the token is gone; the deposit was turned over on the way out. If only the token wins, $50 profit sits in the withdrawable balance at PointsBet, whose help page says bonus bet winnings "are not subject to turnover requirements", while the deposit still has to be bet.5 The turnover page has a calculator for other numbers.
One more rule: a promo code "cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer" (TAB clause 62.7), and a token can't be combined with a boost or a second offer on the same bet.3
Deposit matches weighed up
Where they help
- The largest token in the terms: 300% of a deposit in Sportsbet's illustration.
- The cap is printed, so the right deposit size is a division sum.
- The deposit itself is still your money and turns over on the first bet.
Where they cost
- Above the cap, extra deposit earns nothing.
- Cash, BPAY and (at TAB) anything but an online debit card don't trigger it.
- Not available to residents of the states in Sportsbet's clause 2.1.
- The token is profit only: $75 at $2.00 is $75, not $150.
My verdict
Read the cap first, divide it by the percentage, and deposit that much by a method the offer names. Everything above the cap is your own money doing an ordinary turnover. Then treat the token as (token × price) − token and put it on a price you'd genuinely back within the week. The deposit bonus terms page lists the remaining clauses one by one, and the comparison shows which bookmaker's terms print the arithmetic for you.
Questions punters ask
What is a deposit match in betting?
A bonus bet sized from a qualifying deposit, subject to a maximum amount or percentage. Sportsbet's clause 4.1 defines it that way; the token then follows the normal bonus bet rules: separate balance, profit only, seven-day expiry.
How does a 100% deposit match work?
The bookmaker issues a bonus bet equal to the deposit up to the cap. With a $50 cap, a $30 deposit earns a $30 token and a $200 deposit earns $50. Above the cap the percentage stops mattering.
Is a deposit match the same as a bet match?
Same token, different trigger. A bet match is calculated from your first bet (Sportsbet clause 3), a deposit match from your first deposit (clause 4). Both are capped and both pay a bonus bet, not cash.
Do PayID deposits count for a deposit match?
The terms don't name PayID. TAB says only online debit-card deposits qualify for deposit-related offers, so cash and BPAY don't. Sportsbet's clause 4.5 excludes Cash Card and BPAY. Check the specific offer before you deposit.
Can I withdraw a deposit match?
The token can't be withdrawn; it's bet once and only the profit is credited. The deposit itself has to be turned over once before it can be withdrawn, at every bookmaker.
How long does a deposit match take to arrive?
Within 24 hours, usually much sooner, at Sportsbet (clause 4.4); TAB aims for two business days after you qualify (clause 62.6).
