The formula: profit, not price
PointsBet writes it out: "The boost applies to the profit portion of your odds, not the full price. For example: a 50% boost on $2.00 odds adds 50% of the $1.00 profit, giving $2.50. A 100% boost on $2.00 odds gives $3.00 - not $4.00."1 The stake dollar inside every decimal price stays where it is; only the dollar above it grows.
Worked example · $50 bet at $2.00 with a 50% boost
- Unboosted return (50 × 2.00)
- $100.00
- Profit portion
- $50.00
- Boost, 50% of the profit
- +$25.00
- Boosted price
- $2.50
- Boosted return
- $125.00
The same 50% boost at other prices, on $50:
| Price | Profit on $50 | Boost adds | Boosted price | Return |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1.20 | $10.00 | $5.00 | $1.30 | $65.00 |
| $1.50 | $25.00 | $12.50 | $1.75 | $87.50 |
| $2.00 | $50.00 | $25.00 | $2.50 | $125.00 |
| $3.00 | $100.00 | $50.00 | $4.00 | $200.00 |
| $5.00 | $200.00 | $100.00 | $7.00 | $350.00 |
Like a bonus bet, a boost is worth more at longer prices, because there's more profit to multiply. A 50% boost on a $1.20 favourite is $5 on a $50 bet.
Kinds of boost
Event Booster (PointsBet). "A token that boosts your odds by a set percentage (%) for a specific event, sport, or race meeting."2 Applied in the slip; returned if the bet is voided, cancelled or declined.
Daily Booster (PointsBet). Boosts issued each day, in several types, used from the slip. "Daily Boosters that have not been used do not roll over to the next day", and unused ones are visible under the profile tab.2 Returned on void bets.
Beast Mode (PointsBet). A market-level boost: "only applies to selected markets", confirmed by a Beast Mode badge on the bet ticket and a price shown in orange; eligible markets are in the promo's terms under "Promotion Details".3
Jet Boost (Sportsbet). A racing promo on Australian and New Zealand thoroughbred fixed-odds singles only. After you place the bet, a jet pack rises and you tap to stop it; "the higher you fly, the more you could win in Bonus Bets". A minimum boost is guaranteed even if the animation fails.4
Power Play (Sportsbet). A boost applied in the slip; can't be used with a bonus bet stake or a bet return on the same bet.5
Race Boost and Multi Boost (TAB). Tokens, not price changes: if the bet wins, TAB issues "a Bonus Bet capped at stake up to $100 rounded to nearest $1", with the boost amount set per customer; the Multi Boost needs legs at $1.10 and a combined price of $1.50.6
The percentage in the banner means the same thing at all three: a share of the profit. Whether the extra arrives as cash or as a token is where they differ, and the comparison shows it.

Rules that bite
Same day. PointsBet daily boosters expire at the end of the day they're issued.2
Not with another promo. A boost and a bonus bet don't sit on one bet at Sportsbet; PointsBet's Run 2nd doesn't apply to a bet placed with an Odds Booster; TAB's Race Boost excludes multis, bonus bets, cash-out and Multiplier bets.6
Cash out forfeits it. Sportsbet's Jet Boost: "If you cash out an eligible bet, no Bonus Bet is paid, and the Jet Boost is forfeited and can't be re-credited."4
Voids differ. PointsBet returns Event and Daily Boosters on voided bets. Sportsbet's Jet Boost on a scratched runner "is forfeited and can't be re-credited, and no Bonus Bet is paid".4
Deductions apply. A runner scratched after a Jet Boost bet is placed triggers standard deductions on both the cash return and the bonus bet payout; a dead heat pays the bonus in full but deducts from the cash.4
Paid in cash or in bonus bets
This is the difference that matters most. PointsBet's Event and Daily Boosters raise the price, so the extra is ordinary cash winnings. Sportsbet's Jet Boost keeps the cash return unchanged and pays the boosted portion "in Bonus Bets, on top of your standard cash winnings", which means the extra is a token that then follows the bonus bet rules: separate balance, seven days, profit only.4 TAB's Race Boost is a token from the start.
Worked example · a $25 boost on a $50 winning bet at $2.00, paid two ways
- As a price boost (PointsBet)
- +$25.00 cash
- As a bonus bet (Sportsbet Jet Boost, TAB Race Boost)
- $25 token
- That token used at $2.00 and won
- +$25.00 cash
- Same headline, one extra bet to collect
- $25.00
A $25 boost paid as a token is worth $25 only if the next bet at $2.00 wins; paid as a price it's $25 the moment the first bet wins. The bonus bet page has the table for other prices.
Boosts weighed up
Where they help
- PointsBet boosters pay cash: no second bet needed.
- Worth most on long prices, where the profit portion is large.
- Voided bets return PointsBet boosters.
Where they cost
- Profit only: 50% on $2.00 is $2.50, not $3.00.
- Daily boosters expire the same day.
- Jet Boost and Race Boost pay in tokens, and cash out or a scratching forfeits a Jet Boost.
- Never on the same bet as a bonus bet.
My verdict
A boost is the cleanest promo in the terms when it changes the price, because cash is cash. Work the boost on the profit, not the price, use it on the longest selection you'd back anyway, and check whether the extra arrives as a price or as a token before you decide it's worth anything. On a $50 bet at $2.00 a 50% boost is $25, and that's the number to hold in your head. The comparison shows which bookmaker pays its boosts in cash.
Questions punters ask
How is an odds boost calculated?
On the profit portion of the price. PointsBet's help page: a 50% boost on $2.00 adds 50% of the $1.00 profit, giving $2.50; a 100% boost on $2.00 gives $3.00, not $4.00.
Do daily boosters roll over?
No. PointsBet says Daily Boosters that have not been used do not roll over to the next day.
Can I use a boost with a bonus bet?
Not on the same bet. Sportsbet's Power Play can't be used if you used a bonus bet stake, and PointsBet's Run 2nd promo doesn't apply to a bet placed with an Odds Booster.
What happens to my boost if the bet is voided?
PointsBet returns Event Boosters and Daily Boosters on voided, cancelled or declined bets. Sportsbet's Jet Boost is forfeited if the bet is void and can't be re-credited.
Is a boost paid in cash?
PointsBet's boosters change the price, so the extra is cash. Sportsbet's Jet Boost pays the boosted portion in bonus bets on top of the cash winnings, and TAB's Race Boost issues a bonus bet if the bet wins.
What is Beast Mode at PointsBet?
A promotion that boosts the odds on selected markets only; a Beast Mode badge on the bet ticket confirms it applied, and the eligible markets are listed in the promo's terms.
